Learn Swing Dance in February (for beginners)!
If you want to learn the basics of Lindy Hop, come to our (free!) beginner workshop Lindy Hop. You don't need any dance experience to join this workshop, and you don't need to bring your own partner. After a series of 4 lessons, you will be able to dance the basic steps, and several turns and moves. Lindy Hop is danced to swing and jazz music (also live big bands!), and can be acrobatic, wild & fast, or slow & smooth. In any case, it involves a lot of fun and improvisation.

Swing Out Loud dances at the International Jazz Festival Enschede (IJFE)!
During the Pentecoste weekend, the yearly IJFE was hosted in Enschede. Amongst other places, the Oude Markt was again a lively place-to-be for Jazz lovers, with two stages featuring a lot of Jazz performances. Swing Out Loud visited the Big Band competition on Sunday June 12, to enjoy the music an dance some Lindyhop. We even made it to the front cover of Huis aan Huis Enschede, which states that "Swinging is allowed during Pentecoste". Of course we would like to stretch this a little bit further... Swinging is allowed anytime! Some pictures of this event can be found in our album.
Swing Out Loud at MAC Berlijn
The enthusiastic Lindyhoppers at Swing Out Loud once again invite everyone to an evening of swing dancing. We’ll give a taster workshop for absolute beginners (21-22h) at MAC Berlijn. Afterwards, there will be jazz music for you to dance in a social, relaxed and friendly atmosphere. This event is open for everybody with or without Xtra card.

Board change
Because Erik Linnartz, our chairman, has left for Australia and New Zealand, and will not be back for several months, we have had a reshuffling in the board.
So, until his return, our board will be as follows:

Vice-Chairman: Kamilla Koichumanova (was: Riëlle de Ruiter)
Social Coordinator: Jolet de Ruiter (unchanged)

We wish Erik great fun on his holidays, and we hope to welcome him again as chairman in July or August. We thank Riëlle for her contributions in the Board, and look forward to her further contributions as member and teacher.
Pool evening
Our first social activity took place on the 16th of April. With 14 Swing Out Loud members we visited the Snooker & Poolcentrum Enschede to play some games of pool. Of course our beloved rotation system also worked well in this activity, so the composition of the teams was continuously changing, and each game was completely different. Open Podium Apollo
At Wednesday the 9th of March, Swing Out Loud performed at the Open Podium of Apollo. During the "Droomshow"-themed evening we danced a mix of solo Charleston and Lindy Hop to a medley from Jungle Book: I want to be like you and The Bare Necessities. Open Lindy Hop lessons!
In February, we have open Lindy Hop lessons for beginners. You do not need any Lindy Hop or other dance experience; we'll teach you the basic steps, and some variations during these workshops. Feel free to join and bring your friends!
You are not obliged to bring your own partner, as we will rotate partners continuously during the workshops!
When: 9, 16, and 23 February.
Time: 18:00-19:00 h.
Location: Atrium (Bastille).

Valentine's Gala
On the eve of Valentine's day, from 20:00 on the 13th of February until 1:30 on the 14th, Swing Out Loud is organising a gala together with our fellow dance associations Arabesque, Break-Even and Chassé (modern dance, breakdance and jazzdance, respectively). You are all more than welcome together with your +1!
The gala will be in the Theatercafé in the Vrijhof building, with of course a real gala atmosphere, fun music, live bands, and even some Lindy Hop music. Tickets will be 20 euro including beer, wine & sodas (several cocktails will also be available for a small additional fee).
Tickets are available during the Wednesday lesson, at our secretary Dieter, or at Appollo.
